Winnie the Pooh has just fallen into the public domain pot! The copyrights on Alan Alexander Milne’s book “Winnie the Pooh” – published in 1926, expired in the United States on 1 January. Disney acquired the rights in 1961. The character of Winnie can now be used and adapted freely in the US territory. But Disney retains the exclusive rights to subsequent adaptations, illustrations and characters, including Tigger until 2024.
