Last Tuesday, the Government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has acceded to the Madrid Protocol Relating to the Madrid Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Marks. After Bahrain and Oman, the UAE are the third Gulf Cooperation Country to join the Madrid System. The Madrid System allows brand owners to seek trademark protection in 125 countries (including the new accession) by filing a single international trademark application. The Madrid Protocol will enter into force for the UAE on December 28, 2021.
