The 2021 edition of the European innovation scoreboard was released on Monday by the EU Commission. Switzerland was once again named the most innovative country in Europe, ahead of all 27 EU states. Zurich came fifth in the ranking by region. Europe’s innovation performance continues to improve across the EU. On average, innovation performance has increased by 12.5% since 2014. The indicators include intellectual property rights (PCT, trademark, design applications). Switzerland’s strengths are in attractive research systems, human resources and intellectual assets.
