With the covid-19 pandemic and the resulting rise in online shopping, the market in counterfeit goods continues to thrive. Switzerland is not immune to this illicit trade. The “Counterfeiting, Piracy and the Swiss Economy” report of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development and the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property was published on 23 March 2021. It outlines how harmful the global trade in fake Swiss-made products is to Swiss industries. All stakeholders are actively working to combat counterfeiting but SMES are struggling with this issue, sometimes having the wrong assumption that the damage has less cost impact than the action that would be necessary to prevent it. While the customs authorities and the other actors are there to help.
