China joins the International Design System

Last Saturday, the Government of China adhered to the 1999 Geneva Act of the Hague Agreement which governs the international registration of designs. The 1999 Geneva Act will enter into force in China on May 5th. From then on, it will be possible to protect China via an international design application. The international route represents an attractive option compared to the national design in terms of costs and formalities. With China’s accession, the Hague System will now cover nine out of ten of the world’s top economic markets according to World Bank rankings and 94 countries in total.
