Here we are: two weeks ago, Switzerland has acceded the Geneva Act of the Lisbon Agreement on Appellations of Origin (AOs) and Geographical Indications (GIs)!The entry into force will be on December 1st, 2021. This accession will allow Swiss producers to use the international registration procedure for protected AOs and GIs such as e.g. Swiss Watches, L’Etivaz, Tête de Moine, Viande Séchée du Valais. The main changes brought about by this accession are outlined in our paper of last year which provides an overview of the protection system in Switzerland and the consequences of the application of the Geneva Act – which is soon a reality.
